Kerner, which is cultivated in South Tyrol only on about 30 hectares in Vinschgau and especially in the Eisacktal, is a compara-

tively young grape variety - it was bred in the 1920s as a cross between red troller and white Riesling. The vine gives a spicy,

straw-yellow white wine with greenish reflections. The distillery Zu Plun purchases the pomace for this grappa from the winery

Köferer in Neustift, where, in addition to Riesling and Silvaner, a solid Kerner is pressed, with the minerals typical for the growing

region. Its class is also found in the clear, characterful grappa. Like the wine, the Grappa Kerner from the distillery Zu Plun is

reserved in the nose, but dry, full and very present on the palate. In the finish, the distillate has a discreet, finely structured aroma

profile with muscat-like flavours.
