The bright ruby Red Rose Muscatel is a special rarity among the South Tyrolean grape varieties - it is said that the prince of

Campofranco would have had it in his luggage, when he moved from Sicily to Kaltern in the middle of the 19th century.

Despite its southern origin, the demanding variety obviously feels at home in the vineyards of the South Tyrolean Wine Route.

The yield is rather small, as well as the area under cultivation and the vines need a particularly warm microclimate. Nevertheless

the South Tyrolean winegrowers, who take up this challenge, manage to produce remarkable vintages of the Moscato Dolomiti

or the South Tyrolean Rose Muscatel. The fine, aromatic dessert wine shines with a full-bodied, sweet-spicy aroma and - as its

name suggests - opulent rose scent. The brilliant colour of this only red among the dessert wines of course is left by the

wayside with the grappa from rose-muscatel-pomace, but not its intense berry aromas and floral notes, reminiscent

of dried rose petals.
